Are images on the Internet also copyrighted?

Contrary to popular belief, works displayed on the Internet are indeed copyrighted. Therefore, one must have the permission of the creator for this use as well. Among (private) users, the idea has mistakenly arisen that copyright does not apply to the Internet.
