Additional interim judgment Pictoright vs Meta

Expert Investigation Can Finally Begin
On 3 September 2025, the Amsterdam District Court issued a supplementary interim judgment in the case between Pictoright and Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram.
In an earlier ruling, the court had already decided that Meta is obliged to pay appropriate remuneration, as of June 2021, to the visual creators represented by Pictoright. Since the exact amount of this remuneration and the calculation method still need to be determined, the court appointed three independent experts to provide advice on this matter.
With the 3 September judgment, the advance payment for these experts has now also been set, allowing them to officially begin their investigation. Their findings will assist the court in establishing a fair and workable method for determining the remuneration Meta must pay to creators.
This interim judgment marks an important step toward achieving a concrete and just compensation for visual creators whose work is used and shared on Meta’s platforms.
